SURRENDER

A couple of years ago in April, the historic house next door burned halfway down on my street of mansions.

The rebuilding process began almost immediately.  The owners had decided to restore their beloved home rather than completely tearing it down.  In March 2023, the house is slowly nearing completion.

Today as I looked out my kitchen window at the beautiful work in progress, I couldn’t help but think about the house symbolizing the power of surrender. 

As a relatively new business owner and spiritual entrepreneur, I have struggled with deeply surrendering.  For more than two decades at various nonprofit and corporate jobs, including management, I always earned my income through hard work.  The hard work was often rewarding, but sometimes when I was not aligned to my true self, the hard work felt like I was pouring my soul out of my body and into places where others used it to their advantage.  And I allowed that.

This year I decided to align with my truth of being a medicine woman deeply committed to inspiring others to achieve alignment, unlock potential, and increase intuition.  I have been working full-time in this role for just over two months.  And because I haven’t been seeing the impact that I want for others in terms of number of clients served, I have been tempted to give up and start applying for full-time jobs.

What do you think would have happened if the owners of the beautiful, historic house next door abandoned their beloved property?  What if, when they learned that the supply chain disruptions from the pandemic and shortage of workers available for manual labor were causing a significant delay to their dream of home restored?  They could have started over somewhere else, sure.  And yet they believed they deserved the exact house of their dreams.  And they patiently surrendered to the process.

But what if you and I believed that we already have the foundation we need for greatness?  What if we didn’t give up on ourselves?  What if we started to TRUST and SURRENDER and believe that even though we can’t see the completion of our desires yet, it’s waiting around the corner?  And what if we started to believe, despite tears and frustrations, that we are so close and in fact it’s our DESTINY to have the exact lives we want?  What if we loved ourselves so very deeply that we gave gratitude for our lives as they are, gave ourselves compassion, acknowledged our debts or shortcomings, and deeply, deeply loved and accepted ourselves as we are?

If we broke our pattern of saying we aren’t good enough yet to have that beautiful house or that successful business or that loving relationship, perhaps a deep peace from surrender would settle in.  Perhaps we would stop obsessively reading self-help books, or listening to inspirational YouTube videos, or “how to” podcasts.  And give ourselves credit for all the things we already know and the wisdom that is flowing through us right now.

It's okay to be in the rebuilding process of our lives.  We can be a work in progress and a masterpiece all at once.  If we came back to loving ourselves so completely, with hand over heart and a deep breath, and said to the Universe, “I surrender, and I completely love, accept, and respect myself no matter what” we would begin to align with a future even better than we could have ever imagined.  I love you.  If you want a patient, loving, trauma-informed, safe space to rebuild your life, I am here for you.  Let’s schedule a time to chat!
